Tandoori Cauliflower Steak

  • 1 large cauliflower large trimmed and cut into thick steaks
  • 1 Tablespoon tandoori mix - can be powder or paste (shaan masala)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste (1 ginger piece and 4-5 garlic cloves blended together)
  • 2  to 3 tablespoons of plain yogurt or you can substitute with coconut milk
  • 1 large green pepper cubed
  • Half onion cubed
  • 1 Lime
  1. Bring water to a boil in a large pot. Immerse the cauliflower steaks in water for about 4  minutes till it is tender, but do not overcook. Carefully remove the steaks and drain the water. It should still be firm.
  2. Dry the steaks on a paper towel.
  3. Mix the yogurt, tandoori paste,  ginger garlic paste and some salt. You can add a teaspoon of flour if the marinade is not thick enough. Brush marinade over both sides of the cauliflower steaks.
  4. Leave the cauliflower steaks to marinate for 2 to 3 hours in a cool place covered on the counter. You can also leave it in the refrigerator overnight.
  5. Arrange the steaks on a foil tray, but make sure it is fairly dry and there is not much liquid from the yogurt marinade.
  6. Broil in oven till the cauliflower is charred usually 8-10 minutes on each side
  7. Saute green pepper and onions with salt and pepper till cooked.
  8. Serve cauliflower with green pepper, onions and lime on a plate
